Kampala: Rally drivers in Uganda are to be trained in First Aid skills by specialists from Victoria University, in preparation for the Total Kabalega Rally, which will be held in Hoima district between 17 and 20 October 2019.

TheSpy has learnt that the management of Victoria University made the pledge to support the rally fraternity when sports officials visited the university to discuss details of the growing working relationship between the institution and the sports fraternity.

The University Vice Chancellor Assoc. Prof. Krishna N Sharma revealed that the university has designed a four-hour short course training that will be offered to rally drivers and their navigators.

Dr. Sharma said The university is well connected with Motorsport because the university promoter Rajiv Ruparelia a few months ago kick-started his rallying career and he is doing well.”

It should be noted that Rajiv recently graduated to the Club Man Rally Championship (CRC) category in the National Rally Championship (NRC) events.

“I have always felt ripe to take on the big competition, but am glad I can finally join. If the rules allow, then we shall be able to take on the Fort Portal event,” Rajiv said after getting the news of the promotion.

The Kabalega Rally is the penultimate round of this year’s National Rally Championship and drivers will cover a total distance of 303 kilometers.

Apart from this partnership with the Motorsport fraternity, Victoria University, which owned by the Ruparelia Group, has in the recent past signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Uganda Cricket Association and basketball association.

Uganda Cricket players, both girls, and boys, now have an opportunity to further their education at no cost at Victoria University.

A source at the University revealed that the institution will help with the psychological performance assessment and analysis of the senior men on the national team.
