Kampala: After being manhandled while being arrested by CMI security operatives last week, Victoria University’s Vice-Chancellor Dr.Lawrence Muganga has decided to bury their ‘unprofessionalism’ by awarding them 10 scholarships that will help them understand the value of human rights and respect for the law.
Lawrence Muganga was arrested in broad daylight in the main building of the institution located in one of the busiest streets of the capital Kampala.
An amateur video posted on social networks showed armed men in civilian clothes forcing a man identified as Lawrence Muganga into a van known in Uganda as a “drone”, which is associated with the abduction of government opponents.
Muganga’s arrest had drawn wide condemnation from Ugandans his family members and academic staff inclusive who questioned why the security did not just summon him but rather resorted to cruel and inhuman arrest.
