“Vipers Sports Club is delighted to announce the signing of Paul Mucureezi from Mbarara City FC on a three-year contract from January 3rd, 2020 to 2023, with an option for a further year,” reads the post on Vipers’ website.
Mucureezi has been a strong pillar in Mbarara City FC team, top-scoring for them last season as they finished 5th. However, he has endured a slow start this season, scoring just three goals in 14 games.
The development happened on January 2, 2020 at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, where Mucureezi joined the Venoms as a free agent, following the completion of his employment contract at the Mbarara based club.
Upon signing for Vipers, Mucureezi could not hide his excitement.
“l am thrilled to be joining Vipers SC”, he said.
“I have enjoyed my time at Mbarara City FC enormously and l have learned a lot there. But I’m looking forward to another journey now with the Venoms.
“I am keen to get started and make my contribution to the team’s efforts to win trophies,” he added.
The Venoms beat off stiff resistance from Kyetume, KCCA and Uganda Revenue Authority for the signature of Mucureezi.
Speaking after the Mucureezi signing, Vipers’ head coach Edward Golola was full of praise for the winger.
“Mucureezi is one of the best wingers or forwards in the Uganda Premier League,” noted Golola.
“He has the right work ethic, talent and mentality to play for Vipers SC and fits exactly the type of player we were looking for to bring into the squad to help us improve and push on further.
“I am delighted he has signed with us.”
Mucureezi is expected to bring competition on the offensive department of the team that already has the second-best top scorer in the league Fahad Bayo, Dan Sserunkuma, Tito Okello, Allan Kayiwa and Abdul Karim Watambala however Muhammed Shaban remains on the road to recovery after his operation and Vipers currently lead the Uganda Premier League with 36 points from 15 games
