Kampala: Last season’s Uganda Premier League’s champions Vipers FC has secured a point away from Wakiso Giants in their first game of the season following closure of sports activities in a bid to curb the deadly Coronavirus.
A game that was held at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso, the Venoms were put in the lead in the 7th minute of the game by skipper Muhammad Shaban with a fine header from a corner kick by Disan Galiwango.
Kajoba’s boys kept on pressing to find another net but the hosts proved solid in the defence with deadly clearances to deny Vipers any chance of victory.
Jamil Kaliisa and Disan Galiwango handed their debuts for the Venoms while Ibrahim Orit replaced Paul Mucurezi in the 53rd minute while Goefrey Wasswa came in for the debutant Jamil Kaliisa in the 60th minute. Later, Orit secured a wonderful chance to double the lead for the Venoms in the 61st minute but shot over the bar.
In the 65th minute Wakiso Giants levelled for the hosts to make it 1-1.
Najib Yiga came in for Dhata in the 70th minute before Geoffrey Wasswa was given a yellow card in the 73rd minute after a challenge on Wakiso Giants striker Viane Ssekajugo.
Vipers got other two golden opportunities to seal the victory but both put to waste by Shaban in the 78th and Galiwango in the 85th minute.
The Venoms now have one point from one game having been delayed to start the 2020-2021 season due to the CAF Champions league fixtures where they were eliminated by Sudan’s Al Hilal last weekend on 2-0 aggregate. Their next league game will be up against the newly promoted Kitara FC at St Mary’s Kitende stadium.
