Vice President Kiwanuka Ssekandi on Monday flew to Maputo, Mozambique, where he is slated to represent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the swearing in ceremony of President Filipe Nyusi, who emerged victorious in last October’s Presidential elections.
The Vice President was received by Mr. Damasco Mathe, Director of International Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique.
A guard of honour mounted by officers and men of the armed forces of Mozambique also received the Vice President.
The swearing ceremony which is to be held later today, will be witnessed by a number of heads of state and representatives of governments from around the world.
Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, also spelled Nyussi, is a Mozambican politician serving as the fourth President of Mozambique, in office since 2015.
He previously served as Minister of Defence from 2008 to 2014. Nyusi was the candidate of the ruling party, Frelimo, in the 2014 presidential election.
