Uganda Police has confirmed the arrest of former Obongi County Member of Parliament (MP) Hassan Kaps Fungaroo, dubbed Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) mobiliser, accusing him of holding unlawful assembly and inciting violence.
These have been confirmed by the North West Nile Police spokesperson, ASP Ignatius Dragudu, who says Fungaroo was arrested after mobilising the community in Obongi to demand speedy action for the construction of a bridge on the River Nile in Laropi, connecting Moyo and Adjuman.
“He convened a meeting at night and started addressing people which is not allowed. During the meeting, Fungaroo made comments that amount to inciting violence,” says Dragudu adding that the former legislator will be produced in the courts of law soon.
Fungaroo late Monday announced he had been arrested by UPDF soldiers in Obongi District during his visit to pay tribute to the family of a Local Council I Chairman in the area.
”I don’t know which law i have broken. I don’t think there is need to ask for permission to go and attend funeral in villages. By the time of the death of LC 1 Chairman’s father, I was not around and I’m told the RDC gave the order that I must be arrested when i return,” he reportedly said on phone as he was being taken to police.
