In the wake of widespread social media claims suggesting that Uganda’s High Commissioner to the UK, H.E. Nimisha Madhvani, had abandoned the official residence due to poor conditions and was now staying in a hotel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has come out strongly to set the record straight.

Speaking exclusively to our Chief Spy Andrew Irumba via WhatsApp on Monday night, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vincent Bagiire, dismissed the reports as “untrue” and clarified that the official residence — a luxurious 7-bedroom mansion located on the prestigious Ingram Avenue on the Hampstead/Golders Green border in London — was actually renovated last year and remains in pristine condition.
“It’s not true. The property is in good condition. Besides, the Head of Mission does not stay in a hotel,” Bagiire explained. “She should be given credit for choosing to stay in a more affordable place as opposed to living in a glamorous 7-bedroom house with only her maid and gardener.”

According to Bagiire, the High Commissioner, who only resides with a maid and a gardener, made a personal and pragmatic decision to occupy a smaller, functional home instead of the grand mansion. The 4-bedroom house she now occupies is rented at ÂŁ8,500 per month, which is ÂŁ9,500 less than what Government earns monthly from renting out the official residence.

The 7-bedroom house — described by real estate agency Aaron Shohet Property as “the ultimate in luxurious living” — was successfully rented out for £18,000 per month. After paying for the smaller residence, the government nets a saving of £9,500 monthly — equivalent to over UGX 30 million — which is deposited directly into the Consolidated Fund.
“We actually already rented it out and we’re saving equivalent to Uganda shillings 30 million per month when you deduct what we’re paying in her rented small house from what we collect from the tenant,” Bagiire said. “The tenant has already made a down payment of £22,500 (UGX 101,250,000) (One hundred and one million, two hundred and fifty thousand only). This money goes straight to the government’s Consolidated Fund, meaning Government is even making money.”
Bagiire emphasized that the decision should be lauded rather than criticized. “We should be appreciating her. Other people would want to live in bigger fancy houses. She chose otherwise.”
The official residence, marketed as an “ambassadorial residence,” features seven bedrooms, a grand reception hall with chandelier, private gardens, parking for eight vehicles, and proximity to Kenwood and the Heath Extension. The property listing confirms its top-tier status in one of London’s most sought-after neighborhoods.
This revelation puts to rest earlier speculation and highlights what the Ministry describes as a strategic and patriotic decision by the High Commissioner to reduce public expenditure and maximize government resources abroad.
