Uganda Police is on a hunt for unidentified thugs alleged to have broken into the Nabweru Magistrate court and stolen UGX 48 Million from a vault in the cash office.

According to reports, at around 3am,
about 5 machete wielding thugs cut through the Chain-linked fence, beat a
single security guard as they broke into the court premises.

These are said to have gone through multiple offices on the premises including that of a magistrate, the State resident Attorney and the registry before landing on monies.

By the time police got alarmed, they found the Vault in the cash office broken into and emptied.

Nabweru South Zone Chairperson, Ms Dorothy Nankya described the incident as unfortunate, saying the attack was intended to block administration of justice.
“It seems the attackers outnumbered the guard to carry out their motive,” she said.

At 9.20am, a prisons bus arrived
with prisoners only to be turned away by police officers who were manning the
scene of crime. Also among affected persons are lawyers and their clients who
had come to have their cases heard. (https://www.propertyspecialistsinc.com/)

Sources say the security of the court premises is wanting despite being near a police station.

The Court holds about 2000 case
files including popular ones like the Nansana Women murders and the Lusanja
Land case.
