Women In Infrastructure Is The Only Way To Transform African Continent- Jane Kasumba

It was pomp and glamour at Sheraton hotel yesterday as a number of African women paid attention to the organized women in infrastructure conference that was aimed at boosting women’s power in the African continent.

This year’s theme was organized under the theme ‘Africa Bridging The Infrastructure Gaps, The role of Women’.

Ms Jane Kasumba, the Chairperson Women in Infrastructure, a civil society organization, expressed her joy for the success of the conference adding that her dream in organizing this event was to see women participation which would generate more knowledge to them hence developing their families, countries and their continent.

Ms Jane in addition revealed that she invited MacDella Cooper, a philanthropist, activist and former Presidential Candidate for Liberia and founder of the MacDella Cooper Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and women in Liberia just because of her life experience which she thought would have an impact in transformation of women mindsets.

This event was organized by InfraAfrica, MacDella Cooper Foundation, Tenge, Kenyan Airways, among other partners.

While giving her speech, the key note speaker MacDella urged all women to stop thinking that its only men who can advised them to start believing in themselves and know that them too have a way to go in promoting their nation.

She went ahead and promised that through her organisation, they are to keep supporting African initiatives aimed at building women and mentorship programs that will rescue African girls who face various challenges mostly while still at school since the only way to bring them forward is by educating, and empowering them.

While receiving her award Lady Cooper that was handed to her by the women in infrastructure chairperson Jane Kasumba and Joseph an official from InfraAfrica, she revealed her happiness to have been recognized for promoting policies aimed at uplifting women in Liberia adding that being awarded motivates her and promised to keep doing whatever it takes to uplift women voices both in Liberia and Africa at large.

It’s not only Cooper who was awarded but also key Africans were awarded in different categories for uplifting the status of African women including, late Maj. Naome Karungi for inspiring women in the field of aeronautics and her award was received by Col Kyomugisha Ikiriza Grace on behalf of the family

Other recipients included, Dr Amina Hersi Moghe for promoting Northern Uganda through Atiak sugar project, Paul Musasizi MD Kira motors for promoting women in automotive.

The event was presided over by the speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga.
