Tumwebaze, who was appearing on NBS on Wednesday, was responding to allegations made by opposition candidates on why the police are continuously dispersing crowds of opposition politicians while those of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party are given a blind eye to hold processions and mass gatherings in the current campaign period.
In the same vein, Tumwebaze called upon the EC to penalize Bobi Wine if he does not refrain from flouting Covid guidelines. “I hear people saying they get overwhelmed by the supporters. Why are you seeking office? You have to be a leader, Let me take the example of my candidate President Museveni; he has refused to meet the people, he doesn’t get out. If he doesn’t, they disperse, he only meets a few representatives,” he noted.

He said that Bobi Wine should be arrested if he does not cease rallying people to his processions. “The message of him not meeting the people is sinking. Police should arrest whoever is violating the SOPs, whether NRM or opposition because COVID-19 won’t spare anybody,” he cautioned.
Tumwebaze lectured Bobi wine that he cant be promising “A New Uganda” while gathering masses and putting them at the risk of contracting COVID-19.
“You cannot claim to be a leader; you cannot claim that you want to bring a new Uganda when you don’t care about the lives of the people. All you care about is people to clap for you, to enjoy you, to lift you by their shoulders. Do you want to lead people when they are dead?” He asked.

Although the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni who is the NRM flag bearer has insisted on not holding mass campaign rallies, his supporters and agents have continued to hold mass gatherings and processions to show him support.
The Electoral Commission banned all mass campaign rallies and declared a “scientific election” where the campaign should be conducted through the media in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
