Kampala: While hunting votes in Kalangala district to oust President Museveni, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine and his campaign team were arrested. However Bobi was airlifted to his home in Magere, a Kampala suburb, leaving his entire team and closest fellows in police custody.

Kyagulanyi said as soon as they landed on the islands for their campaign, they found lots of military police, regular UPDF and police officers who were deployed to arrest them and separated him from his campaign team before being released.

Among those still in detention include his security team members, media team, and his closest team including Nubian Li, Dan Magic and Eddy Mutwe who heads his security team which he attributed to Museveni’s government saying, “the regime thought if they arrest my team and close bodyguards, then I will have been left stranded and halt campaigns, I have a mission to fulfil, I will go ahead no matter what.”

Now ever since then, there have been rumours circulating on various social media platforms alleging that the detained NUP members have been brutally tortured with some photographs showing Nubian Lee, Eddy Mutwe breathing on oxygen something that had since spiced mixed reactions from angry netizens against security operatives wondering whether they were trained to torture instead of securing Ugandans.

It is against that background that Police communications department released a statement last night trashing those rumours saying that Ssebuufu Edward alias Eddie Mutwe and Buken Ali alias Nubian Lee, who were later transferred from Kalangala to Masaka for unknown reasons are in safe conditions.

“We believe the accounts of torture are fabricated to taint the image of the forces and also capture media headlines,” said police.

Police also answered Ugandans who were questioning about secrets behind its move of lifting suspects’ fingering prints while in detention saying, “We would like to disprove these sickening allegations by sharing images of the two suspects, that was obtained today while lifting their fingerprints. It is a lawful procedure undertaken when suspects are being processed for court and for future criminal record purposes.”
